Dresden Transport Museum The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic publishes five multicolored postage stamps with illustrations from the Dresden Transport Museum. Special cancellation from September 13 to November 12, 1977 Transport Museum Dresden 20-pfennig value: first successful German motor aircraft in 1909 The engineer Hans Grade (1879-1946) constructed and built the first successful German motor aircraft. Already in the fall of 1908 he had experimented with a three-decker on the Cracauer Anger near Magdeburg. In the following year he developed the monoplane shown in the brand image and thus corresponded to the then most modern principle of aircraft construction. The grade monoplane was characterized by reliability and safety. He was designed as a high-decker in wood-fabric construction. The pilot sitting free in the air stream below the engine and the wing gave the plane a natural stability due to its weight. The grade monoplane of the Traffic Museum was reconstructed in 1960 using original parts. This included former grade mechanics. A special interesting detail is the spade-type propeller used in the early days of Grade.
