Representing the work of the large number of organizations, which selflessly place themselves at the service of helping fellow human beings in every imaginable emergency situation, six missions are depicted in the special postage stamp series "Volunteer Services". The two special stamps, which were first published on June 18, 1970, deal with the topics of nursing aid and fire brigade. Nursing assistance is a very extensive area, which is supported by the Free Welfare and many other organizations. The following overview shows the extent to which the welfare associations affiliated to the Federal Association of the Free Welfare Association maintain facilities for nursing assistance: The Free Welfare Associations make up 75% of all places of homes for children and adolescents, 57% of all places in the nursing homes, 37% of all Places in hospitals, 75% of all kindergarten and day care places for children. The helpful work of the fire brigade is so well-known that it is not necessary to make any comments here. If you would like to get a picture of it, please visit the exhibition "From the Life of the Fire Brigades", which takes place on the occasion of the 24th German Fire Day 1970 in the period 17 to 21 June in Münster in Westphalia. It has the motto: »The co-responsibility of the firefighter in today's society«.
